FORGE ON BROADWAY
The former Buffalo Forge Manufacturing site involved the remediation of a site which once included a heavy industrial/manufacturing plant that had been demolished previously in 2006. Demolition resulted in a brownfield for development for the infill of a 13-acre city block in Buffalo, New York. The Forge on Broadway development is a new, mixed-income, residential development with a focus on residents’ health, safety, wellness, and active living. Designed with the City of Buffalo, Green Code, and Urban Development Ordinance, urban planning and architectural solutions were used to benefit the residents while also revitalizing a community that has not undergone a development of this scope on the East Side of Buffalo, bridging a gap of housing needs. Featuring an active design, The Forge on Broadway creates an affordable, safe, and walkable community in which residents have access to multiple well-maintained playgrounds and green spaces including an active green roof design accessed from the building. In addition to the active living residential component, the building also provides new retail development along Broadway.
